Understanding Paediatric General Practice: Everyday Care That Grows With Your Child

At Health Hive, we know how many questions come with raising a child – especially in the early years. From feeding to fevers, sleep regressions to puberty, it can feel like there’s always something new to figure out.

We’re here to walk that road with you.

A year ago, we opened our doors with a vision to create a space that feels different: warm, supportive, family-focused, and deeply child-friendly. A space where both children and parents feel seen and heard.

So, what is a Paediatric GP?

As Paediatric GPs, we’re General Practitioners with a specific focus on children – from birth through adolescence. We’ve both completed additional training in paediatric hospitals and hold Diplomas in Child Health. This means we’re equipped to support your child across a wide range of physical, developmental, and emotional health needs.

While we’re not specialists, we are often the first point of contact for concerns. And when a child needs more, we refer to trusted paediatricians and allied health professionals within our network – ensuring care that’s thoughtful, coordinated, and in your child’s best interest.

When should you bring your child to see a Paediatric GP?

Early support can make a world of difference – and we’re here for that. Many families first come to us for:

  • Well-baby and routine checks
Growth, milestones, feeding, and maternal mental health – we cover it all.
  • Common illnesses
Fevers, colds, ear infections, skin rashes, sore tummies, and more.
  • Developmental concerns
Concerns around speech, motor skills, learning, or emotional regulation.
  • Behaviour and mental health
Sleep difficulties, anxiety, big emotions, family stress, and puberty-related changes.
  • Chronic or recurring issues
Asthma, allergies, constipation, eczema, recurrent infections, and others.
  • Parenting support
Sometimes, you just need a space to ask, “Is this normal?” – and get a calm, informed answer.

We take the time to really get to know your child and your family. Our standard consults are longer, and our approach is relationship-centred – because we believe trust is the foundation of good care.

Beyond the clinic

At Health Hive, we believe children’s health is about more than just diagnosing and treating illness – it’s about supporting families as a whole. That’s why our work extends beyond the walls of our clinic. We host community talks at our local library, run period workshops, and engage in health education that empowers both children and caregivers.

Our goal is to walk alongside parents, offering care that’s thoughtful, collaborative, and grounded in real-life concerns – from physical health to emotional wellbeing, from big milestones to the quiet, everyday moments.

If you’re looking for a place where your child’s health is seen in the bigger picture – a place where questions are welcomed, worries are softened, and care feels personal – you’re always welcome at Health Hive.
